Around the World in 80 Fabrics

Sponsored by Panasonic I was honored to work with ATW80F to HELP tell stories from around the world of artisans and innovators that are working with and creating fabrics that are sustainable economically as well as ecologically.

 
 

morocco june 2023

In collaboration with Ain Leuh Women’s Cooperative, Artisan Project, The Microbe Institute and Jude Lab, this expedition explored the ties between natural plant based dyes, innovations with microbial dyes, and the places and people who are behind the textiles of Morocco.

 

scotland july 2023

On location in the northern most island of the Orkneys, a team including videographer Rowan Aitchison documented the unique sea weed eating sheep of the island and the fascinating community of people who come together once a year for the North Ronaldsay Sheep Festival.

 

Japan November 2023

A tradition, thousands of years old, continues to live on in Tokushima at Watanabe Indigo Studio. Going behind the scenes on a special fabric installation commissioned by Panasonic, Jamie documented the intricate dyeing process and the passionate team creating blue dye from plants.

 

Oaxaca December 2023


From coastal regions to mystic mountains to arid valleys, the team partnered with Khadi Oaxaca to bring to life the full story of the cloth. Starting the journey through the fields of small scale heritage cotton farmers and ending in Oaxaca City where their fabrics become beautiful products.
